Brief Description:  Installing the Surfaces to the Main Shaft

After aligning the horizontal stabilizer/elevator with the wings and fuselage on Sunday, I marked the correct position of the bushing joints. I thought it was marked quite well with sharp pencil marks. Even though I additionally clamped them down, they still moved after disassembling the surfaces. Drilling with the fully installed elevator was not possible! 1mm of movement makes a huge difference on alignment over the distance. After sleeping over it, I decided to realign with a new method. Took a 10mm phenolic board and milled holes for the correct position of the 2 stands. This way it enables changes without moving the stands unequally and forces the bushings to work against each other. Also the correct arm (300mm) from station 297 is much easier to achieve. The phenolic jig can be clamped down all the way around and will be rocket proof in position. After positioning, the stands can be simply set back in the holes and centered drilling will be a blast!
